MVCC:NEWSLETTER AD HOC COMMITTEE

The Ad Hoc Committee to plan the publication of a newsletter for MVCC met on Wednesday, December 3^rd. Present: Amy Lawrence, Nancy Hoisman, Evelyn Dravecky, Amanda Seward, Christine Taylor.

The following is a summary of the meeting’s discussion:

It was agreed that at this time the newsletter would be published three times a year.
Features of the newsletter could include:

Initially a lead article about what a neighborhood council is about, what is means to each individual
Updates on Council activities
A column on how to get things done with the City
Community business profiles
What, Who’s new in the community
Profiles of Board members
Kids corner
Community opportunities
Welcoming new stakeholders in the community

The newsletter would be translated into Spanish.;some editions could feature Latin businesses.
Distribution: mail to stakeholders; also distribute through the schools, businesses in the community.
Personnel: Two editors to coordinate planning; 2 production people; writers
We should target the first edition for either March, at the latest April
Coordinate with Neighborhood Associations in the community: Hilltop, MVNA, Westdale; Westside Village. Before the group meets again, we’ll research the newsletters these groups publish. Contact Bryan Gordon, Jerry Gotlieb.
Hilltop has block captains which could assist in newsletter distribution.
The next meeting will be scheduled within the next two weeks to give opportunity to collect data.

Since December 3^rd, the following has occurred:

Evelyn contacted Julie Jaskol and Francine Alexander, both of whom have experience in newsletter publication. They have agreed to serve as editors of the MVCC newsletter. John Bielok of “eat cake productions” has offered to assist in the production of the newsletter. He’ll also be invited to attend the next newsletter meeting.
