September 10 Meeting Notes
Ad Hoc Committee for October 14 MVCC Event
1. Promotional brochure/flier—It was decided to use a flier/brochure to distribute broadly for this event rather than a promotional card as was used prior to the last event. The brochure would only contain information about the event and would not be used to gather stakeholder information. Stakeholder information will be collected on postcard sized cards at the event.
2. Distribution of promotional materials—Decided not to use Walkman’s services to distribute the flier. Instead Board members and committee members will distribute brochures. And, a manned table will be set up at 4 Mar Vista grocery stores to pass out brochures on the Saturday before the event. Stores to be covered include: Ralph’s on National, Trader Joe’s on Palms and Sepulveda, Albertson’s on Sepulveda, and Whole Foods on National.
The flier will also be included as a whole page in George Chung’s monthly newsletter which is widely distributed throughout Mar Vista. The existing flier will be modified by Christy to include an emphasis on the raffle and to list the businesses by name.
Amanda was assigned responsibility for the flier preparation. Amy will make posters for MVCC posting sites and stores, and distribute them to their locations.
3. Update on plans for the program—
Yesterday—The committee decided to cover only 2 Mar Vista areas in the history review because of the limited amount of time (10 min. total). Charlie West was introduced and talked about Westside Village history. The committee decided to have him present it on Oct. 14 and suggested that Amanda Seward contact a person she knows about for the other area to be discussed (Amanda was not present).
Prior to our next meeting on Sept. 17, Maritza, Ken A., Amy, and Christy will review all the photographs Maritza has collected and select those to be used in a powerpoint slide show at the event. In addition, Christy will go to the library to see if they have historical pictures.
Future—Kent cannot be present for the event but will meet with Maritza and Ken to help prepare this portion of the program. Some discussion occurred as to who could present the information and keep it lively and at an overview level—no decision.
4. Next meetings—On Wed. Sept. 17, we will plan main points to be covered and photos to be used in each part of the program. We expect to produce a high level outline of main points to be covered in each of the three parts of the program as well as an outline of the transitions between the three parts. An additional preparatory meeting is scheduled for Sept. 24 and a dress rehearsal of the program is scheduled for Oct. 2. Committee members should plan to attend all three meetings.
The meeting of Sept. 17 will be held in the Santa Monica College building at 2714 Pico at 7 pm. The entrance is at the South side of the building and the parking lot is accessible from 27th Street.
