What's happening at the Green Committee?

What's happening at the MVCC Green Committee?
- This Sunday, March 28th we welcome the Master Gardeners back to the MVCC Green Booth at the Mar Vista Farmers Market from 9 AM to 2PM. If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting them yet, please stop by! They will be handing out free seedlings and seeds - but most important, advice on organic gardening. Did you read about the extreme loss of population of Monarch butterflies in the LA Times? Something as simple as planting Milkweed in your garden can make a difference. Learn from them why what you plant has so much impact on our environment
Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make the Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase such a success! Check out the maps that were created by our Co-Chair, Laura Bodensteiner - there are 6 different walking tours (1 to 4 and 5 & 6) that cover 79 gardens! Susan Keirn and Melissa Stoller both have gardens on the tour and invested weeks canvassing the neighborhood to lend our Vice Chair, Jeanne Kuntz a hand in recruiting gardens. Laura Grigsby took photos of gardens that couldn't provide them and Tom Gertsch did a video shoot with Jeanne of several gardens - watch for it to be posted soon. Yvette Roman not only recruited gardens but reached out to Sunset Magazine and they are going to feature us on their Fresh Dirt blog soon. Please stop by each of their gardens on the day of the tour and thank them for their amazing efforts! My garden is on the tour as well and we will have an MVCC sign in booth there with extra maps and will hand out free reusable bags. We look forward to meeting you! We've attached a flyer for the tour - please help us spread the word.
We hope you will join us Wednesday the 24th for a special screening of Dirt! This is an important movie and will be followed by a Q&A with the director of the film and Commissioner Paula Daniels of the LA Department of Public Works. There will be a lot of great insight into what we can do in our homes and gardens to protect the environment.- Please join us for our MVCC Green Committee meeting on Sunday the 28th. The agenda will be posted by Thursday 3/25 on our page at the MVCC site. Our next meeting will be in May - the garden tour preempts our April meeting. We meet from 9:30 to 11:00 AM adjacent to the MVCC booth at the Mar Vista Farmers Market.
Thank you to everyone who has been volunteering to lend us a hand! Joseph Treves has taken over opening the booth once a month. Suzanne Benoit volunteered a shift and closed the booth last week and Susan and Ephaim Weissman did the same this week. Laura Grigsby already took one shift at the booth and is working with Jeanne to get flyers distributed for the tour. Peter Youngblood Hill helped us at the booth a few weeks ago. It truly does take a village and we are blessed with an amazing 'village' in Mar Vista! Contact Jeanne@marvista.org if you would like to lend a hand. We promise you'll have fun! Jeanne is assembling a team to do signage the day of the tour and we are always eager for help at the booth.
