The Mar Vista Community Council has an open volunteer position: that of At-Large Director. We will seek to fill the postion in accordance with Section 6 of our by-laws.
All interested parties should please read the following information about some of what is required of a Board Member of a Neighborhood Council, posted on the LA City Department of Neighborhood Empowerment website (DONE). And here's an article describing what Neighborhood Councils are all about.
It's a lot to read - and all very important to know.
We want to make clear that this is a volunteer position, as are all the Board positions, and that there's a significant time commitment expected from all Board members on the Mar Vista Community Council (MVCC). We hold a monthly Board of Directors' meeting that lasts from 1-4 hours, including set up and clean up. And there's prep time for those meetings as well.
Plus Board members are expected to Chair or co-Chair a committee, as well as generally participate in the running of the organization. Many of us put in 10-20 hours per week. Some spend more time than that.
All Board members are required to take all necessary City of Los Angeles trainings for elected officials.
The At-Large Director will be appointed by the Chair at the next Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, September 12th. The term will last, at a minimum, until June 2018, and at a maximum, until June 2019, at which point, the next election will be held. The choice to run again or not would be yours.
According to the MVCC by-laws, Article X Section 6, these are the criteria for the position of At-Large Director:
Candidates must certify in writing that they are Stakeholders of the MVCC in accordance with these Bylaws and Election Procedures approved by the City as follows:
The "At-large" Director candidates must be a Stakeholder who lives, works, or owns property within the stated boundaries of the Council;

Persons who are interested in applying for the position must write a statement of candidacy, submitted by Tuesday, September 5th, 2017 at 12pm. Email statements to the Chair, at Sarah.Auerswald@marvista.org. The names of those submitting statements will be placed on the agenda of the September 12th Board meeting. Candidates are welcome to make a statement at that meeting in support of their candidacy. After that, the Chair shall appoint one candidate and the Board will vote.
Please email the MVCC at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
