The Mar Vista Community Council is seeking candidates to fill the newly created Zone 7 Director and At-Large Director on its Board of Directors. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage with the community and to advocate for its interests. The appointment will last until the next election in June of 2021 at which time the selected candidate may, at his/her sole discretion, choose to run for re-election.
In order to qualify for the At-Large Director position, a Stakeholder must be at least eighteen years of age and live, work, or own property within the geographic boundaries of the Mar Vista Community Council (https://www.marvista.org/area-boundaries-and-map.php). The Zone 7 Director must be at least eighteen years of age and live, work, or own property within the geographic boundaries of Zone 7 (South of Venice Boulevard; North of the Culver City border between Centinela Avenue and the intersection of Zanja Street and Walgrove Avenue; East of Walgrove Avenue; West of Centinela Avenue).
This is a volunteer position and can involve substantial time. There is one Board meeting monthly which, until further notice, is held as a virtual meeting via Zoom. Only a phone is necessary to participate and Zoom training will be provided. In addition, each Board member is expected to serve as Chair, Co-Chair, or Vice-Chair of at least one committee and remain current on all city-required training. Some members spend four or five hours per week on Board business; others spend many more.
The appointment will be made at the August 11, 2020, Board of Directors meeting, in accordance with Article V, Section 6 of the "Bylaws of the Mar Vista Community Council" (tiny.cc/mvccbylaws) and will take effect upon the conclusion of that meeting.
