NVLL Community Meeting

NORTH VENICE LITTLE LEAGUE COMMUNITY MEETING
TUESDAY, JANUARY 20TH  •  7:00-8:30 PM  • MAR VISTA REC CENTER

The Council Office, along with Rec and Parks, is hosting a community meeting for the purpose of the NVLL introducing their formal design and plan to add a T-Ball specific field to the existing footprint across from Grand View.

The Council Office will open by introducing all parties.

The NVLL will make their presentation, which should last 15-20 minutes.

The remaining time of the meeting will be dedicated to a Q&A session when the community will have the opportunity can make comments in support of or in opposition to the project.

Following the meeting, Rec and Parks will assess the feedback and make a final determination regarding the approval or rejection of the project.

MVCC and TOY DONATION for the HOLIDAYS

We hope you had a happy holiday season. 
To end our year, Mar Vista Community Council donated toys for distribution through the Nourish LA Sunday event. April Peterson, At-Large Director delivered the toys and managed the distribution. Thank you April!

Children loved the choices that included toys that were family oriented. Connect 4, Kerplunk, Twister, Doodle tablets, Checkers and Chess, and even guitars. We kept all children in mind from toddler to teens. 

Wire theft leaves Mar Vista streets in the dark

Mar Vista neighbors woke up to darkness as the new year started. 
Quite a few blocks in Mar Vista are affected by street lamps were damage from wire theft. 
Council woman Traci Park and Mar Vista field deputy Matt Holden came out to survey the damage and speak to neighbors. Hopefully they won't be left in the dark too long and the damage will be repaired in a timely manner. 

A day in the sun and fun at Venice WinterFest

Mar Vista Community Council spent a day in the sun and had fun at Venice WinterFest. It was so great to talk and listen to stakeholders all day.

Officer Appreciation Day

Zone 3 Director ANDREW MARTON, who also serves on the COMMUNITY - POLICE ADVISORY BOARD - PACIFIC AREA, participated with preparing the OFFICER APPRECIATION DAY for our PACIFIC DIVISION OFFICERS who work day in and day out to keep Mar Vista safe. 

Look at all that pie! A beautiful and well deserved delicious time was enjoyed by all. 

Mar Vista's Blood Drive- We did great!

Did you know that an average 8 hour blood drive produces 5 pints of blood? 

Mar Vista logged in at 14! We were just shy of 3x the average!

We went above and beyond!!
14 donors registered, 2 donor(s) were deferred and 12 units were collected. We also registered 14 first time donors, your blood drive gave 36 people another tomorrow! This is amazing!

October Crimes in Mar Vista

OCTOBER CRIMES IN MAR VISTA

The most notable aggravated assault was on 10/28/25 at Sepulveda Blvd just north of National Blvd when a homeless male shot and struck a homeless male in his temple.  

A similar incident occurred on 9/20/25 also on Sepulveda Blvd just north of National Blvd when a homeless female shot and struck a homeless male in his chest.  Suspect was arrested on the 9/20/25 incident.  

A large encampment is on Sepulveda Blvd under the 10 Freeway.

10/01 –  National Blvd & Sawtelle – 
Homeless suspect used pump nozzle at gas station to swing and throw at police  officers.  Suspect arrested.

10/02 – 10700 blk Woodbine St –
Suspect (friend) strangled victim after victim told suspect to go to rehab for drug use.

10/08 -  Centinela Ave & Pacific Ave - 
Male suspect struck female with vehicle when she crossed the street. Victim was in dispute with suspect’s girlfriend. 

10/25 – 2800 blk Sepulveda Blvd – domestic violence.
Husband strangled wife during dispute.

10/28 – 2900 blk Sepulveda Blvd – domestic violence.
Boyfriend strangled victim during dispute.

Three Robberies
10/03 – Sawtelle & Palms Blvd –
Two juvenile suspects pepper sprayed juvenile victim and took backpack. Possible marijuana deal gone bad.

In Residence – 10/12 – 12100 blk Mitchell Ave – boyfriend suspect forcefully took girlfriend’s phone during dispute.

Estes Business – 10/17 – Sepulveda & National Blvd – suspect swung knife at security guard after caught shoplifting.

Crime Trends, News, & Prevention Tips

Crime in October has been low compared to earlier in the year and previous years.

Auto crews are continuing to hit the Westside taking catalytic converters.  

They mainly target older vehicles from 2008 to 2012:

• Honda Civics

• Toyota Prius

• Toyota Corollas

It is difficult to protect your vehicle when parked on the street, try to park them in a well-lit area to deter them wanting to be seen. Consider investing in a car cover.

Targeted vehicles are targeted because the catalytic converters can be removed quickly and easily.  

If the vehicle is covered, the thieves will not know what vehicle it is.

Drive defensively. Drive safely.  Avoid road rage.

With all the vehicles and traffic and distracted drivers, there is a lot of road rages and traffic accidents.

This includes some busy streets in the Mar Vista Community Council area.   Drive defensively. Drive safely!

MVCC at the Neighborhood Council Summit

Mar Vista Community Council was invited to the West LA Neighborhood Council Summit at the Mar Vista Recreation Center on November 8th. 

Chair Charlene Samiley, Community Director Carolyn Honda, At Large Directors April Peterson, Steven Hedge and Steven Paddock, and Zone 6 Director Aaron Vanek attended.

Mayor Karen Bass and City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto both spoke and had a short Q & A. The gist of the conversations were about how Community Councils can have an impact in their neighborhoods and City Leadership reporting on what they are doing

Dodger Nights at Mar Vista Rec with Traci Park!

Couple of nights watching the Dodgers outdoors. Traci Park’s office sponsored raffles, we enjoyed the beer garden, taco truck, shared official Dodger Peanuts and cheers from Mar Vista fans. Thank you Council Member Traci Park for sponsoring this really fun evening.

Fall Festival and Blood Drive

FALL FESTIVAL + BLOOD DRIVE
Mar Vista Community Council had a booth at the Mar Vista Rec Fall Festival, and we sponsored a blood drive through Lifestream Blood. It was a beautiful Saturday filled with kids and families. The blood drive produced good numbers. MVCC gave safety vests that were the fashion statement of the day, rice krispy treats, chips ahoy, animal crackers, and goodie bags for kids that included play doh, a fun lighted ring, and bubbles!

Porchfest came to Mar Vista! Fun was had by all!

So many porches...so much great music!
Porchfest in Mar Vista was a wonderful show of community and talent. For two days, musicians of all sorts performed throughout our neighborhood and spread joy, music and positivity. It was an awesome two day event that showcased our local creative minds, and brought neighbors together tapping their toes to the rhythm.

LAPD Pacific Division 100 Year Celebration!

Chief McDonnell and Councilmember Traci Park will be attending.

The event begins with a program in front of the station at 11:00 AM.
After the program (around 11:45 AM), it will shift to the back of the station for the
open house and conclude at approximately 3:00 PM.
